Imam Open Position

SALARY & BENEFITS

POSITION PROFILE 

The Windsor Islamic Association (WIA) is now accepting applications to fill the position of Imam at the Windsor Mosque. This role encompasses the provision of religious services, marriage and social counseling, religious education, and representation of the Muslim community of Windsor.

BACKGROUND

Home to Windsor Mosque, the WIA was established in 1960. It is one of the oldest Islamic organizations in Canada and the oldest in the City of Windsor, Ontario. Through its institutions and programs, the WIA serves the spiritual, educational, and social needs of over twenty thousand Muslims living in Windsor who represent over 60 nationalities. 


As an organization, the WIA is committed to promoting the core values and teachings of Islam which include peace, sincerity, compassion, tolerance, moderation, social justice and service to society and humanity. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada; preference will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents. 
  • A good understanding of the Canadian culture and society, and the challenges that Canadian Muslim communities experience, 
  • A university degree in Islamic Studies or related field from an accredited educational institution. A master’s degree or PhD is an asset, 
  • At least 5 years experience as an Imam and Islamic educator, 
  • Hafiz of the Holy Quran and Mastering of Tajwid and Tilawah rules, 
  • Sound knowledge of the Qur'an and the Sunnah & Islamic law (Fiqh), 
  • Fluency in English and Arabic, 
  • Ability to work with people of varying Fiqh, Mazahib, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds, 
  • Dynamic personality and excellent communication skills, 
  • Motivational speaker/lecturer and able to teach Islamic subjects to a broad audience while attending to the need of each community segment, 
  • Computer and social media literate.
     

The successful candidate shall agree to a complete background check and provide the names of 3 references who can speak in detail about the candidate’s experiences, knowledge, and character. 


RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Lead the daily prayers, Jumaa, Taraweeh, Eid, and Janazas, 
  • Respond to inquiries and questions on religious matters from community members and the WIA board, 
  • Maintain regular and convenient office hours at the Mosque for consultation and guidance with community members, 
  • Engage with individuals and organizations, Muslim and non-Muslim, positively and constructively, 
  • Invest in guidance and mentorship programs for Muslim Youth.
  • Perform marriage ceremonies (Nikah) and all other marriage-related counselling activities. 
  • Provide guidance and informed advice to members of the community on religious affairs, 
  • Develop, organize, maintain, and deliver regular educational programs (e.g., lectures, study, halaqas, workshops) for the community at all levels, 
  • Work closely and collaboratively with the leadership of the WIA board and its directors to support the mission of the Windsor Islamic Association and the Board’s strategic plan, 
  • Foster unity and a sense of inclusion among all community members, while ensuring that everyone is treated equally and with respect, 
  • Help and assist the Association in fundraising activities, as requested by the Board.
