WINDSOR, Ontario (October 11, 2023) — The Windsor Islamic Association is gravely concerned over the escalating war in Palestine and implores our political leaders to advocate for immediate de-escalation.
All human life is sacred and violence against innocent civilians from any party is never justified. An end to this decades-long conflict will only occur when true and genuine effort is made to address its root cause - the Israeli military occupation of Palestine.
The ongoing injustice inflicted on the Palestinian people for decades (which includes continued confiscation of their land to expand Israeli settlements, subjecting the entire Gaza population of 2.3 million to a 16-year-long blockade, extrajudicial killings, home demolitions, and desecration of the holy sites) serves as fuel that ignites these repeated cycles of violence.
Cutting off water, electricity, and preventing food and supplies to reach Gaza amidst ongoing indiscriminate airstrikes is turning Gaza into a compound human catastrophe. This is immoral and unjustifiable collective punishment.
As such, we call on our Canadian government and our politicians to be fair by recognizing the suffering that is taking place on both sides and to take whatever measures necessary to bring about lasting peace.
